Free Chemistry Webinar: “The Science of Reaction Mixing: Seeing What You’ve Been Missing”

Asynt chemistry webinar: "The Science Of Reaction Mixing: Seeing What You've Been Missing"

You’re invited to a break-through chemistry webinar for which Asynt have partnered with the chemists at Kineticolor.

Date: Tuesday 21st July 2026  Time:  11.00 am (UK time)

Who Or What Is Kineticolor?

Chemical manufacturing is dominated by colour changes, both subtle and stark. However, very few reaction monitoring methods turn what we see into numbers we can use.

Kineticolor is a software platform that transforms video recordings of chemical reactions into quantitative kinetic data through computer vision analysis. By extracting colour information from reaction bulk, this non-contact monitoring approach provides real-time insights that complement traditional spectroscopic methods. This talk will present validated applications across diverse synthetic challenges, including palladium catalyst degradation in cross-coupling reactions, solid phase peptide synthesis optimisation (achieving 65–95% reductions in coupling time whilst maintaining yield and purity), parallel high-throughput experimentation, mixing analysis, electrochemical monitoring, and forensic spot tests for controlled substances.[1, 2]

Kineticolor publications demonstrate robust correlations between video-derived colour parameters and molecular conversion measured by HPLC, NMR, and other offline analytics. Critically, this technology requires no specialised hardware beyond a standard camera, making it immediately accessible through the simple act of recording video of their reactions. The approach offers value for operationally simple, camera-agnostic monitoring of reactions that prove difficult to analyse by conventional in situ methods. The team welcome collaborations to explore new applications of video-based reaction monitoring in your research area.

The tool has been applied from Schlenk flasks to multi-litre stirred tanks, cross-validated against computational fluid dynamics, and used to characterise processes ranging from peptide couplings and palladium catalysis to mixing in viscous deep eutectic solvents, the last of which led to the current collaboration with Asynt.

Immediate Visual Impact

To demonstrate the level of information available and the implications for your chemistry, we’re highlighting the DrySyn MiniSpin, Asynt’s precision vial-scale overhead stirring platform, being used with the Kineticolor platform to view mixing performance.

Guest speaker

Asynt’s Andrew Mansfield (Technical Manager) is joined by Dr Marc Reid who’ll be presenting at this free chemistry webinar.

Marc is the Co-founder & Chief Scientific Officer at Kineticolor, but also Senior Lecturer and UKRI Future Leaders Fellow, at the University of Strathclyde, UK.

Kineticolor turns video from any camera into decision-ready insight for chemical process monitoring. Our software uses computer vision to quantify what the eye sees — colour, texture, mixing, shape — in the chemical bulk, so you can monitor reactions, mixing, separations and electrochemistry without touching the process.

Built for scientists from lab to plant, Kineticolor is non-contact, hardware-agnostic and scalable: analyse multiple regions in a single reactor or many experiments in one view for parallel/HTE workflows.

Why teams choose us:

  • Validated, peer-reviewed science (Angewandte Chemie, Chemical Science, OPRD, Digital Discovery).
  • Proven with industry partners and used in production today.
  • Born from leading university research in chemistry and computer vision. If you can see it, we can help you measure it.
