Quadracell Evaluation: Dr Amit Kumar, University of St Andrews

Quadracell high pressure reactor evaluation:

The Quadracell reactor in this paper enabled us to improve the efficiency of the reverse water–gas shift reaction (the conversion of CO₂ and H₂ to CO and H₂O) using homogeneous catalysts.

In this setup, we carried out the hydrogenation of CO₂ in one chamber, while the remaining chambers were filled with molecular sieves, which effectively adsorb water. The water vapor generated as a by product passed out of the reaction chamber and was captured by the molecular sieves in other chambers.

Continuous removal of water shifted the equilibrium toward product formation, increasing the overall yield and enabling higher CO production.

This enhancement would not have been possible without the Quadracell system.
