Sustainable Research Symposium 2022

Date: May 19, 2022

Join Asynt at the Sustainable Research Symposium 2022

The Sustainable Research Symposium 2022 is the 2nd year of this event, taking place on 19th May both online & on site in Utrecht, the Netherlands.

Why join this sustainable chemistry event?

Research labs leave a considerable ecological footprint behind due to the massive consumption of energy, water, materials and reagents. Additionally, labs produce a substantial amount of waste – in fact, academic research labs produce an estimated 5.5 million tons of plastic waste each year according to the organisers of this symposium.

Some of the eco footprint is necessary but we can do a lot to make our research more sustainable. Join The Sustainable Research Symposium 2022 to learn more about:

  • what you can do to reduce the eco footprint of your lab & office work
  • what researchers & institutions in various countries do to boost sustainability
  • how we can make scientific meetings more environmentally friendly
  • where you can meet ‘green-minded’ researchers or get others on board

More about the history of The Sustainable Research Symposium and the organisers

This recurring symposium was started by a group of researchers at the University of Copenhagen (Denmark), together with Ava Sustain, decided to make an event promoting the integration of sustainability in science.

Free to attend, this is a travelling symposium with a new group of organisers each year.  For 2022, Green Labs NL will be handling the event whilst maintaining the originators ethos:

The core values of the Sustainable Research Symposium revolve around planet and people. As a means to 1) ensure inclusivity 2) limit the climate footprint of the symposium and 3) prevent commercial interests from being entangled into the symposium.

You may find our recent blog on World Water Day interesting and useful.  Read online now: https://www.asynt.com/news/world-water-day-2022/ – or take a look at our range of sustainable laboratory tools, including the oil-free, safe, clean lab heating block system – DrySyn – the waterless air condensers – CondenSyn – that prove that saving the planet needn’t cost you your chemistry – and additional water saving tools such as recirculating chillers.
